I need help to buy 911 carrera
Hello everybody,
I am looking to buy 2001 911 carrera. Until now I have been driving only Mercedes. While I was looking for my dream car I notice that on a lot of used carreras the engine or transmission have been replaced. Is that t something normal?
I will really appreciated if you guys tell me what I should look for before I buy the car, because I don’t want to end up paying a lot of money and then again paying more to replace engine or transmission.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated

Just like any other car, if you take care of it... it will take care of you. I have a 1999 Carrera 996, which is pretty much the same car as the 2001 you are looking at. 112,000 miles on mine and it still runs perfect, because I take care of it. Everything is pretty much original, including the original clutch, although that is somewhat rare. Most people need a new clutch around 60,000 miles. I did have to replace the shifter cables, whichwere not cheap, and some emissions items as well as normal wear and tear parts including brakes and tires. The rear tires wear @ twice as fast as the fronts, because the engine is back there, and because 911's come from the factory with a little negative camber in the rear tires for handling, so the tread wears out quicker on the inside of the tire. When it does go into the shop it is more costly for repairs, but in my opinion worth every penny. Pay to have the car inspected before you buy.
Hope this helps,
Kevin

Check the car out like you would any car. An oil leak in a 911 can be a big problem so one must look under the engine. Get a car fax and ask who did the maintenance work on the car. Seven year old cars are usually never in perfect condition and doing work to used cars is part of the deal. If you are really worried, up your budget and buy one that still has factory warranty. If you like sports cars, you must have a Porsche at some time in your life - they are wonderful cars and you will never regret it. Good luck.
