Default my car smells

Hello all, I am new to the forum. My first question is regarding my 2006 911 carrera. The car has smelled like b urning engine smell since I b ought it about one year ago. The dealer says this is normal Porsche has a coating on the engines that may smell. To me iit seems crazy. Does anyone feel that there car engine has a burnt smell to it after a drive. Thanks Steve

I would say it is the clutch. Drive it nice and easy one. Do not slip the clutch to much and see if you can still smell it.

It is common for 911s to have a burnt oil smell after spirited drive. It is normal, nothing to worry about.

I would check your rear panel for the presence of an oily residue...

Dealer = no. Forum writers = yes (likely). (And BTW, I'm no Porsche engine expert, tech, etc., but I am a practicing and afflicted OCD person)
By now, any manufacturing-related engine coatings should be long gone. Unless you have less than 500 miles on the car (shame on you!), this is not the problem
It is true that after shutdown, Porsche's tend to carry a bit of post-race aroma - a bit of burning oil, hot hoses, hot metal, even road dirt kicked up on to the headers creates a unique bouquet.
But be careful here. Your note sounds like the thing really smells - like there might be a leak of some precious auto fluids leaking on hot metal, a dragging clutch, etc. Pay close attention. There's a fine line here - with radically different consequences.
