Default New Member and Need help!!

Hey everyone. New to the forum and happy to be here. I have a 2003 cab and I am looking to upgrade and have several questions. I would consider myself about a 6 on a porsche scale since I have owned 4. I really miss my C4S, but that is where the confusion sets in for me. I love the 4, but should I move up to the turbo? It is strictly a weekend car for me, so I dont see myself spending a mountain of money. I only have 18,000 miles on my baby now.

I realize I am being general...but is there a 911 that stands out as the best option between a 2005-2007 C4S or turbo? I look forward to hearing from you all.

I am excited to be in the group. My other cars are Range Rovers, and I hate not driving my Porsche every day. I think my Mom called that growing up, but she has never owned a 911!!

Without a doubt, I would highly recommend going to the turbo, as the engine case is the traditional style case which has been proven for years. The C4S uses the M97 case, which has had it's issues. The turbo is also much more upgradable in terms of hp if you decide you eventually want more.

Thanks Doc. Is there a "better" turbo from 2005-2007, or is it buy as much porsche as I can afford? What I mean is, any of them more trouble or had issues?

I think I forgot to mention cabriolet. Does that change your mind in any way? Turbo cabs seem hard to find...even down here in Texas.

Hi the 996 Turbo 2001 onwards (and Turbo Cab if you must) was considered to be one of the great supercars of that time. Certainly there are many companies with expertise in power upgrading this model (500+BHP is not unusual!). The 996 Turbo S with 450BHP and Ceramic Brakes is interesting too. Although you might find a 996 Turbo with X50 Power upgrade which lifts the stadard 420BHP to the same 450BHP on the Turbo S.
The latest 997 with the VTG Turbo ismore powerful still, but the power upgrader companies are still doing their stuff on this model.
I think your view of buying the best car you can find and afford is very wise.
Regards Big Bob.
PS If its a weekend only car what about a 996 GT3 same proven engine case?

The 997TT was not release until 2007, so if you want the newest model, you are looking at 07 and 08. The 996TT of course was 2001-2005 (no turbo model in 2006). The 997 is much more advanced system than the 996TT, but both are still great cars with great potential. Depending on what your budget is, don't be afraid of either. The 996TT's can be had for below 70k with very little mileage on them if you look around. Like Bob said, the X-50 cars had the K24 turbos (standard was a k16), which makes upgrading even cheaper since your turbos are taken care of (they will handle a little over 600hp without much problem). The 997TT's are still demanding pretty high money, so if you hold out a year or two, prices should start coming down.

There were very few changes between the years on the 996TT, but 01's did not have a glovebox. That was added in 02.
