Default RE: Which one to buy

In Oklahoma we have no emmissions testing whatsoever so anything to do with emissions is irrelevant unless it's a problem repair that can't be resolved. After seeing the 993 version the 997 and 996 just don't look as appealing to me. In my opinion, (right or wrong), the 993 epitomizes a Porsche 911. Not trying to offend anyone with a newer car, I just like the looks of the older one's. I think there's something to that as well as I see a lot of 993's priced higher than 1999 and 2000 year models. Or is there something more to that as well?

The technology of the newer 996/997 blows the 993 away by a long shot, and they are a much more refined car. On the other hand, the 993 is the last of the traditional air cooled and body styled 911, so they have been holding their prices fairly well, though the NA's are really dropping lately. Both have their pros and cons.

Hi Oklahoma
I think you have now had the best advice the Forum can offer looking back through the the accumulating 2 pages of contributions.
I think the key thing for you to assess is, willany ageing 993 be a fully reliable daily means of transport for your wife to use? I've run many "older cars" Aston Martins, Maseratis and Jaguars, and they are fine but I would never put them into a stuation where they are my daily transport. The 993 is now moving into this area where they need to be cherished and to preserve them, (this does not mean not using them- butas a daily vehicle ?).
Thus to look at the 996 where used values are acceptable for the spec your wife needs, or to the 997, would seem to bea better match to your overall requirements, although your heart is beating/racing for the 993.
Best of luck and happiness with your final decision.
Regards Big Bob

While I do like the appearance of the 993's it will be my wife's weekend toy and reliability and comfort are going to be far more important factors than what I think it looks like. 996, (not a 1999),or 997 is the direction I'll be going in. Thanks so much for all the input and helping me make a better informed decision.

Not to beat up the 993, but another issue has to do with the Drive Bloc system. It can be very annoying.
