Which Porsche is the right one for autocross & fun!
I've starting to look for a car, having been a BMW owner for several years I'm thinking about making a change. I'm looking for a fun car, used, <$25k, I love doing my own maint., want to autcross w/SCCA and do (Porsche) driving events.
I have no problems buying an older car. I'm not looking to be competetive nationally w/the SCCA, just locally. It's really about the fun, Road Atlanta events etc...
A 944S2 looks like a good bet (I forget the year but the hp and weight look good), is that my best bet or is one of the 911's the way to go. I'm not to sure boxster's have been around long enough to be in this price range....
What do ya'll think?
Pete

prgallo,
The 944s2 is a great car but if you really want have some fun the 911 is the way to go. You can't beat a 914 on an autocross course but it's a compromise elsewhere. The 911 SC is a good car all the way around. The 944's handle great and more like all the other front engine, rear drive sports cars. The 911 is a completely different driving experience and IMHO fun to learn and a real blast once you develop the skills of rear engine dynamics. You can do all the work on a SC or older car with basic mechanical ability, while the 944 and later 911 require more special tools and electronic testing stuff.
Happy shopping, let me know if I can help.
