Default Targa Wind Noise

I've been looking at 911 Targas (an 83 and an 86), but one thing I noticed about both cars is with the roof on, the wind noisefrom the top was so loud that it drowned out the engine.BesidesDE's and autocrossing,I'd like to use the carforroad trips with the wife for long weekend holidays. However, there is no wayshe would go more than a few miles with the roof howling. Can new seals, etc. make the top quiet or is wind noisejust the nature of thetargas? Thanks.

Default RE: Targa Wind Noise

Here is a suggestion. Clean all the roof seals and mating surfaces with something like Autoglym Rubber and Plactic Cleaner. Then lightly coat the seals with Vaseline. Make sure the roof sections clampdown properly. Then do a trial drive. If this improves it all well and good.
As the seals get old they harden, and hence dont clamp down as they used to do. Do a fuishness check comparing the front header in particular to the roof section. If there are any areas of the roof that appear overflush to the front header, try gently dressing the seals with a rubber mallet to see if you can improve the flushness. Same rules for rear header.
If those 2 tricks fail you may need to consider a new set of seals.
