Default Porsche as first car?

Forget the people who are jealous and the naysayers. Do what makes you happy.

However, I will bring some things to light:

- No matter what Porsche you get, none are cheap. Some will say porsche piwis 2 you can get an entry level Porsche, a "Poor man's Porsche" but fact of the matter is ALL Porsche parts are expensive, period.

- Some will be lower maintenance than others, but these cars require frequent maintenance intervals, are engineered with tight tolerances, and do not like to be neglected.

- The older 911s have an odd weight distribution do to the engine placement, not desirable for your first car if you decide to get a wild hair up your butt and stomp on the gas and swing it out from under you in a corner...

The 914 and 924 are a good best for your first Porsche. They are relatively easy to work on, aren't insanely powerful but you don't see them every day, they're easy to get parts for to the most part, and are reliable.

Keep in mind the 924 does NOT have power steering.

The things to look out for the 914 and 924 are going to be RUST when looking at them. Even a "mint condition" 914 or 924 that was left in the valley or a place with moisture can have rust issues hidden away if you don't check them, it's easy to check out.... just scope out the frame, fenderwells, under the car, etc...

Try to stay away from the 944 if you don't like frequent maintenance, they're nickel ford vcm 2 and dime you left and right. The 914 and 924 are lower in maintenance, not very powerful, and both handle like a dream, great for your first entry level Porsche.

If you plan on going new you can go with a boxster if you have the money to go for it, but they are far more costly to own.
