Default Curious sound to identify...

Hey Folks, Heard a "small electric motor-type sound" for the first time today. I was just wondering if it had something to do with the cooling system... as Ishut the car offshortly after the fans started up I could still hearsomething running (not the fans) that lasted approx 2 or 3 mins before shutting off. Can anyone tell me what that sound was?

Is the car a turbo or not? If so, then it is the turbo water pump

Hi Doc, Thanks for the reply. It's an "84 n/a so I guess the car is making asound that I'll have to get under the hood to check next time.I was in a rush that time that I stopped to listen for a brief moment. It almost sounded like aelectric waterpump (or something similar to that sound)running for a minute, then shutting off.

Had the same sound today and hurried back into the car to pop the hood to check on that sound. The (driver side) fan continues to run on for approx a minute or so,if the car is shut off while fans are operating.

Yes, the fans will kick on if the temperature of the coolant is above a certain degree, even with the car off. It is normal.

Thanks Doc, always good to hear something that isn't going to cost $1,200.
