Default Fuel smell

Hi everyone. I have an 86 944 na and every now and then it smells like gasoline, especially when it is semi cold or run fast. I have to admit that this is my first car with fuel injection but if it had a carbuerator i would suspect that it needed adjustment. I have put some of the fuel injector cleaner in the tank and the problem abated somewhat but it is still there two weeks on. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you

Default RE: Fuel smell

If you are smelling gas, stop driving the car immediately. 944's are notorious for going up in flames due to fuel lines cracking. There is a short line from the fuel damper to the fuel rail that was recalled by porsche due to leaking and starting fires. You can call your local porsche dealer and see if the recall was done on your car....lifetime recall notice, so no problem getting them to replace it, though it is a germany only item, and will take about 2 weeks to get the part. Then there are the 2 main lines, which are the feed line and return line....no recall, but still prone to cracking. Start the car and get under the hood and start looking for fuel leaks. Also, look around the injectors, those rubber o-rings are prone to cracking over time and will weep. Fuel rails are also known to crack and sometimes they can be hard to pinpoint the leak in.
