Default Manual Steering

I have an 86 951 and the bracket for the Power steering was broken and the pulley on the pump is bent. Instead of replacing the bracket and pump i had the thought to convert it to manual steering. I have an 83 944 with manual steering but im not sure if they are that similar in sprockets and everything. If they are similar, is there a difference between the steering racks on early/late models? If some one can give me some answers or a quicker fix, it would be much appreciated.

No difference, your manual rack assembly will bolt directly to your 86. I converted my 86 951 to manual steering. You will need the rack, steering shaft (that runs from the rack to the firewall...the power steering shaft is a different length), and tie rods if you are just swapping from one car to the other.

If you were converting an 87 or later car, you would also need different tie rods, but that is not the case here.
