Default steering

did all 1983 944s come with power steering? i went to check my power steering fluid level and couldnt find where to fill it so was just wondering if they came with non power steering

no 83 was manual steering. In 84 powersteering became an option IIRC.

edit: And in 85.5 PS was standard.

so is there any thing i can do to make it a softer turn at lower speeds? its harder to turn then my manual steer VW Fox

One simple thing you could try...Have you checked the air pressure in your tyres is correct?

yep all is well there. its just like steering a boat when i have to make it turn out of my drive way on to the street.

Yea, that is about all you can do. Manual steering will be tougher getting in and out of parking spaces etc at slow speeds, but should feel great once you get up to speed. Funny thing is manual steering is highly coveted among the 944 fanatics, used manual racks and intermediate shafts go for about 500 bucks or more used. Most like to get rid of the PS system that is prone to leaking.

ya ive been reading that thats the case. and i think i can live with it. high speeds sure do feel nice too.
