Default whine sound from firewall area

1988 944 NA Auto Trans

Right after a rain a sudden whine sound starting coming from firewall area. It Will NOT make the whinning sound if on jack stands. Sound is at all speeds but increases at decelerating. No recent water leaks.

I just completed putting motor back in after assuming pilot bearing (did not go by pulling trans, long story there) anyway same sound is coming from front and center of car. Wasted alot of hours it seems.

When motor was out I thought I had found the problem because the pilot shaft bearing had been spinning on the shaft and had worn it down a little. It looks like the pilot bearing was very stiff and caused the spinning. I built up the shaft and put in a new correct bearing. I also spun, pushed and pulled the shaft, no slack was felt.

Any other Ideas.

Did you replace your throwout bearing?

So did you put in an entirely new clutch, or just replaced both bearings?
