Hi, i've got an 87 944 turbo, yesterday i started hearing this really loud noise when i turn the steering wheel almost like a motor struggling. obviously to me this sounds like the power steering motor is packing up. is there anything else it can be?

 

Are you low on fluid in your reservoir (remmber it is dexron III ATF fluid, not power steering fluid). Otherwise you are probably correct in having a pump on it's way out.
