I have 12K to spend on an older model 911. I have extra cash to pay for future repairs, ect but want to keep purchase at this level.

Will only be a weekend/getaway car and would love to hear opinions on which way to go?

Thank you in advance

PS I disklike the 944 and Boxster so that's not an option

I think you will have to look around a lot and not look for just one 911 model, series of years, etc., but consider everything where asking price is below about $16K. If it were me, I'd look at every 911 in that range, and focus only on condition, just waiting until I found one in "good" shape. "Good" shape will mean the flaws/problems are of a type that don't bother you: if you are into engine rebuilds one in great cosmetic/body shape but with a tired engine would be good. Maybe you don't mind restoring cosmetics but want good drivetrain, etc. Regardless, never accept a car with lots of rust.
I've seen acceptable if rough mid-late 60s cars in this price range as well as stuff up through the mid 80s. I've seen nothing from the 993 and on in this range I'd touch.
