Porsche oil recommendations
I am trying to help my daughter in law long distance. My son is deployed and is out right now and she has his 81 or there abouts 911. She returned from a trip to find the battery dead and oil on the floor from a leaky motor. She knew to start it up to check the oil, did that and then called me to say she lost the dipstick. I told her to immediately shut the motor off and then get a flashlight to see where she lost it. She said the dipstick goes in the same place as where you add the oil. Is this correct? She had a neighbor find the dipstick, he fished it out, apparently no damage done. She said there was a smaller hole for the dipstick in the same place. She then started the car again and found that it was down to the min. level. I told her to check the manual for help on the amount to add, etc and to make sure she put it in the right place. So couple of green Porsche 911 Dad questions. I would appreciate some help. Car guys, no matter what type are great, so know I will get help here.
1 - how much oil should be added? I told her to do a quart and see how far up it went with the motor running.
2 - think she is adding synthetic, if the motor is leaking, will leak more with synthetic, right?
3- what type oil would you suggest for this car?
4 - is that where the dipstick is located?
Thanks again for the help. Was across from the Porsche Corral at Road Atlanta and there were some gorgeous Porsches there. Yes, I was in the Corvette Corral, though I have an appreciation for all cars in general.

Yes, the dipstick is in the oil filler neck. 20w-50 castrol non synthetic is probably what she needs to run. If there is a mobil 1 sticker showing synthetic has been put in, then you can put in 15-50 mobil 1.
The sump holds about 12 quarts of oil, so under city driving conditions, running a few quarts low will not hurt anything. It is a dry sump engine.
Also, when checking the oil, make sure she has the car running AND at operating temp. The oil level will come up as the car gets near operating temp, so you can't check it cold.

Thanks for the help, this is what I needed. I admit to just finding out today from a friend at work that they were dry sump, same as my ride, though mine just went to it a year ago. Thanks again!
