Prepping the purchase of a 964
Hello everyone,
I've always been a fan of Porsche vehicles and decided it was time to treat myself to a 911. I really like the 964 models and I was wondering if theres anything I really need to look for before buying one of these. I would prefer getting a carrera 2. As a first step, I purchased this book:
Porsche 911 (964) Enthusiast's Companion: Carrera 2, Carrera 4, And Turbo 1989-1994
but also want to hear from you guys.
Working on these cars doesn't worry me, I have my automotive tech degree and my specialty is electrical troubleshooting.
I currently own a heavily modded 98' bmw 328is and have had it for 5 years. I just feel it's time to move on to a real sports car. It will only be used for 4-5 months out of the year and probably won't travel more than 3500 miles during that time.
Any tips or knowledge will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Costa

Definitely do a leakdown and a compression test on the motor before purchasing. Also check the engine for oil leaks (will require dropping the lower belly pan). Valve covers/chain covers are easy fixes, but if the base gaskets are leaking, then you are looking a good pile of money to replace.
