83 S starts but stalls straight away
Hello this is a call for help. I am restoring a 83 928 s, i have installed new fuel pump filters ht leads plugs and flushed the fuel tank through but still have the same problem. It starts on the key every time but stalls straight away, the short time the engine is running (seconds) it sounds sweet and is running on all cylinders. Is this a common symptom for something i am missing, any advice greatly recieved

RE: 83 S starts but stalls straight away
Hi Gary,
I have the same problem (occationally) It can start great 99% of the time and every once in a great while without warning...nothing. I let it sit sometimes for 1/2 hour one time 2 days and then it starts llike nothing was ever wrong. I have been researching it for 2 years. I have been told it is a vapor lock in the old fuel pump when the weather gets hot. I have just purchased a new relay to try that as a possible solution as well. It could also be a loose wire off the battery. It has be stumped as well but I am looking still, one part at a time....good luck, sorry if I am no help but I can give you my sympathy

Try jumping the fuel pump relay: http://members.rennlist.com/v1uhoh/jumping.htm
or you could swap the horn relay for the fuel pump relay.
Have you checked fuel pressure?Seems there's a check valve at the fuel pump/filter that can fail to hold pressure when bad.
