Default Clutch/Trans??

Shifted from 1st into 2nd while making a lefthand turn and as soon as I let the clutch up it was not longer in gear i guess. Once pulled over, with the car in gear it would start to pull until the clutch was about 1/4 of the was up and then it just makes a chattering sound with no more foward movement.... It does this in all gears..... When i got the car home i started it again and the motor is making a clinking sound. Anyone have ideas on what i might have done?

Year and make of the car?

3 options:
1. You blew apart the rubber centered disc. Typically this is a gradual process, as the 20 year old rubber rots and slowly starts to give way
2. You blew the ring and pinion.
3. One or both CV axles came loose.

Put the car in the air on jackstands, pop the inspection hole plug in the rear torque tube, put the car in gear, and see if the driveshaft is moving at the transaxle end.

You can also pull the starter, and see if there are bits of rubber in the starter hole.
