Default Newbie Please help

Hey guys, have an 84 944 4 banger, I had a blown head gasket, took the head off replaced it tried to start it and all it did was backfire one time now it wont turn over at all, I dont know what it is but it wont start I am afraid the engine seized up but im hoping thats not it, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys

Well, try rotating the crank by hand, if you can turn it, then the engine isn't seized. Are you for certain you timed the belt correctly? If all that looks ok, then do your basics....do you have fuel, spark and air. Make sure the rotor and distributor cap are on correctly, etc.
