I have a convertible 996 which has developed a problem with the hood. The electric hood won't lock and consequently I can't raise the rear windows.

What seems to happen is that once the locking mechanism clicks into place when the hood is raised it immediately starts to uncouple. It keeps repeating this until you stop holding the hood button (in car or remote).

Has anyone come across this problem and more importantly can offer a solution

 

I am confused. So when you close the hood and try to latch it, it just reopens? Not sure what you meant with the remote button, you should not be touching that when closing the hood.
